This week in farm AI: what's actually worth your attention
Archive note (10 August 2026): this roundup is from the week of 23 March 2026. The BISS 2026 window it mentions has since opened and closed — the deadline was 15 May 2026.
Three things from that week that were worth five minutes of your time. One useful, one to watch, one to ignore.
The useful one
Teagasc's PastureBase platform quietly updated its mobile interface this month — the grass measurement entry screen is faster and the cover map loads better on 4G. If you've tried it before and got frustrated with the loading time on the farm, worth trying again. Free to use.
The one to watch
The Department of Agriculture confirmed the BISS 2026 application window opens in mid-April. No surprises on the timeline, but worth setting a reminder now rather than scrambling in week one. We'll have a guide on using AI to speed up the application process before the window opens.
The one to ignore
There's a lot of noise online this week about AI "revolutionising" Irish farming through drone fleets and robotic milking. Some of it will happen eventually. None of it is relevant to your farm this week. When something actually lands in Ireland at a price that makes sense, we'll cover it. Until then, we'll leave the hype to others.
That's it for this week. If something came across your desk that we missed, send it to hello@farmai.ie — we read everything.
